No doubt he is south india's best singer and one of the greatest
in indian film music.
Even the great SPB was humble enough to admit that he is a better
singer than him.
He had made our leisure times memorable with his divinely voice.
Especially- for the people of kerala he is more than special.
If there is any one, in Kerala that almost every keralite either
manworship/loves/respect a film personality it's KJY.
recently we heard Mammooty citing him as "Naadhamae"(You are the music).
One thing to be admitted is that kerala never failed to give him
all the rewards, awards and honours deserved to him.
As an ardent fan of him, I feel he should announce his
retirement within a year or two.
There is an apt phrase in Malayalam "Swaram nannayirikkumbol Paattu
Niruthuga.."(Meaning-It's better to stop singing while your voice, chords
and scales are it's best)
Look at famous singer PB Srinivas who was on once the musical voice of Dr.Rajkumar.
It was pathetic to see him singing completely out of chords with his shivering voice
-At a felicitation ceremony of P Suseela.
Even KJY himself, had once told that "Lata Mangeshkar should retire from singing".
I think this should apply to KJY also.
Because,he should leave the field with all the respect he has now.
We admire and respect Sunil Gavaskar because he retired when he was
at his peak.
Even today we wish Manju warrier would have continued acting.
This is bcoz she retired at her peak.
This is the human nature. For instance,The legends- MSV and Ilaiyaraaja.
Their contributions are out of bounds and measurements. But still we
say they are "Field Out" and some of us even say they offered just dabbaanguthu
songs.
I think KJY should soon announce his retirement. He has got a better excuse of
"Concentrating more on Classical Music",for which he can definitely contribute
much.
Further, as some one pointed out in this forum even I feel there are some shades
in his voice sometimes splits("Pisuru Thattal" in Tamil )during base voice.
(May be we are wrong)
If somebody could help in giving me the email id of Kjy it would be
much appreciated.
Thank U.

eda "patti" pradeep kumare..!!
Ninte ammayappan anonoda "JayachandIran"?
Yesudas is/was/willremain India has ever bore and the greatest in the world cos:
1- his song collection is over 35,000 recorded songs
2- His voice was tested at Royal Albert's Hall England in the start of his career. His voice was the best only comparable to Rafi Saheb's.
3- He will never sing Off-Chord like you spat out.
4- jayachandran can only sing like he (mr.appu said) is in his 80's. He can only murmur slow songs. He cant even think of uttering a "swara" properly in Carnatic Classical.
And tell me u think jayachandran can just sing songs like:
"Ezhu Swarangalum" ; "Raga Sudharasa" ; "Harimuraliravam" ;"Sagarame Santhamaakane" ; and so many more..!
Yesudas's most divine voice with an equal amount of depth, purity, his style of pronouncing words in clarity can never be matched by Jayachandran!
!!!SO READ AND UNDERSTAND B4 TALKIN CRAP!!!!

I think Pradeep Kumar has purposely written bad about Yesudas so as to draw strong positive responses supporting Yesudas.
Any true malayalee will know that
1) KJY has sung more than 35000 songs (not 20000)
2) He has been singing for more than 40 years and not 15 years (as Pradeep has commented)
3) Even if somebody prefers Jayachandran's voice to that of KJY (due to personal preferences), no one can dare to say that KJY is the worst singer.
On what grounds Pradeep says PJ is better than KJY? Is it Voice, Clarity of pronunciation, imparting emotions, or rendering swaras ? Also he has not mentioned any of PJ's songs supporting his argument.
Even if Yesudas has got MONOPOLY, it is because of his DIVINE VOICE & TALENT.
Who else can sing songs like Nadhabrammathin, Yezhuswarangalum, Kaattile Pazhmulam, Pramadavanam, Ramakadha, Harimuraleeravam, Shreela Vasantham etc ??

i totally agree with ramesh. jayachandran is a good singer, but in no way comparable to yesudas. there is an unreleased mohanlal dileep film Chakram, where pj and kjy sing a duet tuned by the maestro ravindran. its of course a light and fast melody, which is supposed to be the forte of both. please all of u check it out and you will know the diff. i don't think that pj even if born again ten times will be able to do a pramadavanam or ramakatha or harimuraliravam, at least not in this janmam. and when both of them do not have any kind of ego clash between them why shld we lesser mortals rake it up. i am also reproducing a brief which i made in another forum which some people may find interesting

"i heard somewhere that for a malayali, one of his favourite posession is dasettan and his melodious voice, being one myself i know its true for me. however when i hear our own people make statements like "he is old and should stop singing" it hurts me. this where we should take a leaf from our north indian friends. look at lata and asha, they are still revered and any of their new songs are sought after and enjoyed. people are only worried how long they can continue to hear their voices.

contd--
as everybody would have noticed dasettan is slowly but surely reducing his no of songs being sung. don't mistake this as he is losing out, but as in a recent interview revealed bu m sitara and m jayachandran it is of his own choice. i willing to debate in any arena that when it comes to imparting emotions into a song there is nobody in the current lot of youngsters who comes anywhere near him. to cite an example, munthirivave in hariharan pilla is beauty. the way he sings" kujava alle" is so beautiful. innale ente, in baletan is another great song where the love for a father flows out.

Contd--yes there is no denying that he is getting old as everyone must, but his singing prowess has still a lot of years to go.
asked about the new singers to m jayachandran upcoming music director, he replied that "we are pampering them" he cited an example of a guy who asked for a pitch corrector for singing. in his words" people like dasettan has been singing for over 40 years and even with technology available today still does'nt ask for pitch correctors"

to continue on my musings earlier, i would like to give comments by a few contemporaries of his.
mg sreekumar: on being asked what his future plans are " i would continue in the field of playback till i am about 50-55 and then shift to carnatic/devotional". the reason: " at that age it becomes difficult to convey emotions especially romance, only geniuses can still do that like in omana kinnaram - kandu kandu kandilla -ishtam" this from a once detractor of dasettan.
Chitra: " there was an instance when for a duet with dasettan i was supposed to sing some swaras as required by the mdirector, try as i might i couldn't get it right. the md got fed up and requested dasettan who all the while was waiting patiently to try to teach me. dasettan with love and patience sat with me for almost 30 min and made me learn. any other person would either have walked off or adamonished me"
- From: Sree (@ 61.11.47.58)
on: Thu Aug 26 02:05:35 EDT 2004
mammooty: " dasettan is not a person for me he is equal to the god of music"
SPB: " i used to feel an inadequacy in singing due to my lack of formal training in carnatic, one day i approached dasanna and he admonished me and said that u are so naturally gifted that if you are interested, within 6 months i can train u in carnatic"
ONV:" my first film song lyric was polthingal in kumara sambhavam and i was fortunate to hear it sung by the divine voice of das"

so to conclude, he should continue singing as long as he wants and as long as we his fans want him to sing.

Sree, you are mistaken. ONV was debut was much before "Ponthingalkala." His first film song was "Aa malar poykayil," which also G.Derajan's entry into the world of films. This song dates back to the mid fifties, where as Kumarasambhavam was produced in the late 60s.

yesu commented some years back that Latha monkeyishkar should stop singing. why he is not thinking about himself now? nowa days the gifted Jassy is overtaking him with great hits like "lajjavathiye". I am sure if jassy sing
"alliyambal kadavil" at that time , it would be
a hit than it now.

yesudas is still the best playback singer in kerala and also the busiest.majority of the songs in a year are still sung by him.his voice still suits everyone from prithviraj to mohanlal & mammutti.
no one else, including all the newcomers have anywhere near the talent as he has.so he shud simply continue singing for atleast another 5 years if not more.

Telling yesudas to retire is like telling a
river to stop flowing. Let us enjoy his singing as long as he sings . may god bless him with many more decades of musical life so that we can keep on enjoying listening to his devine voice. It is waste of time to compare him with any other singer as every singer is unique in their own way and we are blessed to have dasettan singing for us in malayalam

U people are waisting ur treasured time dibating unwanted things.
Yesudas is the GREATEST singer for ever and ever.
i dont ask u whether u can do like him or not, coz it is useless and waste of time.
Nobody has doubt on this, and WE INDIANS, the MUSIC LOVERS, dont want to lose him even one moment from the world of music. no one can think of indian music without DASETAN.
maybe some selfish people may say that he should stop (oh god let it never happen)for their personal benefits.
Dont try to make disputes on selfish purposes and dont feel u r making such a big collective opnion on this. coz people will unmask ur real purpose, and that will be worser than u r now.
GOOD LUCK
THINK AND THINK
DONT DREAM TO MAKE IT REAL.
IT IS NOT A SUGGESTION BUT A WARNING.
