I feel good tonight; for once, it felt nice to be in the theatre, after a disappointing Onam, a few months back.

Should admit that I was in two minds, even as my friends stood in the not-so-long queue to get the tickets for the show. No regrets though, that I ventured bravely into the hall. After that mish-mash Mizhi Randilum, Ranjith has a relatively taut script in his hands , this time round. Easily drawing fine performances from his lead cast, the debutante director takes us on a two-and-a-half hour journey of emotions, but sans the melodrama and shrieks and wails. Even the romantic element b/n the leading pair is underplayed, so much so, that it lingers somewhere in the background, adding to that feel-good atmosphere maintained through out. Which is perhaps why, the climax appears a bit too ordinary, and as a notch down from the rest of the movie. But we forgive that, and a few other scenes [ like the Prithvi-Navya song & Prithvi's kidney business!! :-) that badly needed an adamant editor], with willing magnanimity, since at the end of it all, one feels GOOD, one feels Human.

After that over-the-board perfrmance in Swapnakoodu, Prithvi is reminiscent of his Nandanam role in AKK. Maybe it takes Ranjith to bring out the best in him. He's immensely adorable, and thankfully, doesnt shout from the rooftops. Navya is competent in a role that demands a mature performance, and breezes through the role with elan. As for the Mother cast - lets cut it short and conclude that they are Brilliant!!

AKK is no masterpiece; not even Ranjith's finest work till date. However, after a long winter of duds and artistic nonsense, one feels its spring time again. Hence its relevance. Lets then keep our fingers crossed and look forward to better times and better films !!

:-)
