Can anyone say where in India people refer to their grandparents by Nana/Nani(maternal) and Aja/Ajie(paternal)?
Thanks

Aji-maa is used in Marathi to refer to Grandmother. I haven't seen the use of Aja as much, though I am sure it must also exist.

fridge,
Kannada is a language spoken by ppl of
Karnataka , India.
Its not similar to tamil.
If u say malyalam is lil similar to tamil, similarly,
we can say
Telugu is lil similar to Kannada.
More script wise.
Kannada has more sanskrit and hindi words.
Very sweet to hear and talk. Soft to talk.
And Kanndigas are very friendly and soft ppl by nature..

Well, not all Kannadigas are soft. One Kannadiga woman near bit my ear off two weeks ago. She was mad at somethings and I found out that when she is angry, she will express that anger in all it's depth. I always thought Indian women were so calm and serene and don't get angry. That woman proved me wrong! She is nice and all, but, BOY, she has a
temper! I'm just glad we were on the phone and at a 200 kilometer distance from each other!

experience with one. At the time of when I said what I said above, I was still getting over the aftershock.

The Bhujpuri people who live between UP and Bihar and make up the majority of indentured laborers who were taken by the English and Dutch over 150 years ago to work on sugarcane plantations in Jamaica, Trinidad, Guyana, Surinam, South Africa, and Fiji all refer to certain family members with names that clearly to which side of the family one is referring to:
1)Maternal grandmother=Nani and husband=nana
2)Paternal grandmother=Aji and husband=Aja
3)Maternal uncle=Mamu and his wife=Mamie
4)Maternal aunt=Mowsie and her husband=Mowsa
5)Paternal uncle=Chacha or Daada or Kaaka and his wife=Chachi or Daadi or Kaaki
6)Paternal aunt-Poowah and her husband=Poopha
7)Brother=Bhai and his wife=Bhougie
8)Sister=Deedee and husband=Bhnoie
9)Son-in-law=Damad
10)Daughter-in-law=Dulahin or dulhan

If any Hindian do arrogance to warn him that with out knowing tamil don't enter into tamilnadu country of Tamils. Since it is part of so called Hindia set up artificial nation, don't ask tamils to learn hindi.
Already years are number for this so called India, a failed state. If India makes Hindi as common language other language people have right to remain in that setup, or not.
Remember before british there were many independant states were exist.Historically Hindi speaking people were bowing to muslims, Hindi is based on urdu, it is grammer is derived from Urdu, U can't even write poem in Hindi, u need to go for Urdu.
Having said that Hindi speaking people have no right to undermine historically superior Tamil, telugu, kannanda, marathi, bengali, gujrati people.
Hindi derived from sanskrit are just hype to popularize it. Except few words it is mostly depending on Arabic and Urdu grammer & structure.
Only script is Devanagri script used to write sanscrit.
All these half boild mundams, considering it as sanscrit derivation.
Only marati is closer to sanscrit than other languages.

Facts about Hindi:
These Mogul muslims came from turkey and nicely ---ed these rajput and other unorganised communities. Forced them to abandon their uncivilied language which didn't have any script or grammer etc. Then these moguls forced them to lean their language some what of Arabic based language Urdu.
As wooden headed fellows(till now) all these north indians doesn't know what happened. They think it is this language they speak from beginning. Hindi is less than 500 yrs old till date it doesn't have proper grammer and poet writing guide lines, simple follow urdu.
Thats why vajpay is Urdu poet, not hindi poet. If anybody is Hindi poet he is mocking, ask any muslim he will tell the same.
Ask following question to wooden headed hindi people:
1) where were any old day writing in Hindi more than 100 yrs old?
2) Urdu and Hindi are twin languages with differnet scripts. Note you can adopt any script to write ur language, not a big deal only convenience. Muslims came from outside arbia, tukey, will they learn local language or impose their language. ( just like hindians doing now).
3) Which is Hindi's grammer book who wrote it when?
4) Hindi is structure less language, hence stupids can easily learn and speak.

Urdu Muslims always speak urdu with Hindian as Hindi is distorted urdu. But these hindian happily talk with them in Urdu with any hesitation. Wooden headed fellows.
Without knowing these facts some people learing Hindi just becuse of speculation that it is derived from Sanscrit, but it is not. It is derived from arabic only script is sanscrit

Aja/Ajie(paternal) are used in several parts of India.
"Aja" is "Arya" or "Ajja" in Prakrit, meaning the respected one.
