i was rereading this book after a gap of 15 years. i first read it when i was 15 or 16 years old. at that age, it was a forbidden book and hence i found it extremely titillating. but now at the age of 32, i am finding this book extremely simplistic and it doesnt really deliver what it promisei.e; the ultimate in sexual pleasure. wallace talks vaguely about various techniques and keeps us hooked till the last page with hints of a fairyland just yonder. at the end, you feel cheated. or is it because in today's satiated internet world, there is no longer anything significant in wallace's work? is he outdated???

Mridula, I remember tearing off the cover as a kid(no, I didn't throw the cover away. are you kidding me?) so I could read it at home. My father detested Irving Wallace. It achieved its purpose then, if you know what I mean :-) Now, if you want me to re-read that book, you'd have to pay me for each page.
I don't think we find him simplistic or insignificant because he's dated or because of the internet or anything else. I think we find him simplistic and insignificant because he IS simplistic and insignificant. The difference is, we are mature enough now, to realize it.

I strongly feel that its a masterpiece. We have to appreciate the fact that Irving Wallace has made the readers believe that there really exists an island where the Garden of Eden was resurrected.
If you need a horny stuff, please dont expect it from Irving Wallace. You have come to a wrong person. I very much differ with the views of respondents that the novel is outdated. Its worth reading than compared to many of the contemporary books.

wasnt expecting horny stuff, but i expected to be convinced about free love, and how it can actually work on an island uninhabited and uncorrupted. i expected to be taken away. expected to go through an experience like never before, to truly understand the values that community stood for. but in the end. nothing. left u so incomplete. ps: i'm 17.

I don't know anything of the book but my boyfriend asked me to get him one for Valentine's day, and I am trying to get a copy.
