More than a year after the debacle of Baba, Rajnikanth has decided to do Ayya, which will be directed by Hari, the current flavour of ‘masala’ movies.
News filtering out from sources close to Rajnikanth say that the shooting would start after Hari completes Arul with Vikram. Ayya will be Rajni’s Diwali 2004 release.
Hari’s strength always lies in his strong storyline and the way he packages it with commercial ingredients. His last two films Tamizh and Saamy were hits, and now with Kovil starring Silambarasan and Sonia Agarwal, he hopes to strike a hat trick at the box-office.
At the Saamy 125th day celebrations Rajnikanth had praised Hari to the skies and said in his speech that this young director is good at making racy and entertaining films to suit the taste of the common man. He even said that the placement of songs, fights and punchline dialogues were inserted into the story of his films in the right manner.
Rajni wanted Hari to start Ayya in November so that it can be released for April 5th 2004 which he feels is his lucky date (Padayappa was released in 1999 on the same date). But Hari was clear that it was not possible and his priorities right now are with Arul

This is true. I have a uncle in the movie business and he confirmed it. I'm not sure if its called Ayya though, but I knew that he was waiting for the same director as Sami.
I hope this is better than Rajini's baba, which was basically an over-hyped, badly planned movie which relied solely on Rajini to bring the goods, which he couldn't. I heard that people like Vijaykanth were overjoyed that Baba was a flop, as it only meant that thier movies became more bankable now.
However, with a strong story, and his original entertaining skills used properly, Rajini can surprise the entire tamil movie industry with this movie.
Just my two cents.

There is a slight adjustment in title and the storyline of this movie. The new tile is "Bhaiya". In this movie, Rajni will act as Bangladeshi immigrant worker in Malaysia(hence the name Bhaiya - as all Bangladeshis are called Bhaiya in Malaysia).

Rajani as a bangladeshi? Sounds like another flop to me. The comman man wants to see Rajani as one of them, not as a Bangladeshi. I hope Rajani realizes this. He is a master entertainer and I hope he realizes that he needs to go back to his old formula. The critics may despise him for it, but the fans will love it. He is a master entertainer and needs to use his skills in a way that everyone can enjoy.
Just my two cents.
