Having a good comedy track is important for the success of a movie. Irrespective of whether the movie is a soga kudumba kadhai, love story or a thriller, Comedy track has been used to break the monotony.
NSK is known for writing his own comedy track with sindhikka-vaikkum jokes. Though, usually this comedy track will be going parallel to the main story, there will be slight interlinks to substantiate the existance of this track.
Oflate, there are lot of movies, in which the comedian and the hero never even meet i.e., the Comedy scenes will be shot separtely with a set of artists and that will not have any relation to the main story line.
To name a few... NSK, mundakannu ramachandran, chandra babu, nagesh, baalaiyaa, thengaay, suruli, kounder have excelled in this art.

I can think of following success formulae.
1. so so story+ average cast + good songs. (40%)
(chinnathambi,karakaattakkaaran, mohan's movies)
2. average story + star hero + 1 good song (25%)
(annamalai, arunachalam,
3. good story + average cast + 2 good song (10%)
(gentleman, samsaram adhu minsaram)
4. different story + new cast + good songs+ luck (5%) ( oru thalai raagam, 16 vayathinile, aval oru thodarkathai)
5. average story + something new + 2 good songs
(5 %)
( mundhanai mudichu, avvai shanmugi,Indian)
