Director Shankar and A.R.Rahman, one of the greatest combinations in Indian film history have split!
From Shankar’s debut film Gentleman (1993) to his latest film Boys (2003) this endearing partnership has churned out six film albums and about 40 songs. Almost all of them were chartbusters with Rahman’s peppy music and Shankar’s poetic and extravagant picturisation.
The latest we hear is that Shankar has signed Harris Jayaraj to provide music for his new film, "Anniyan" produced by Oscar Ravichandran. Harris, a former keyboard player with Rahman shot to fame with films like Minnale and the recent Saamy and Kaakha Kaakha. This film will star Vikram, the hottest star in Tamil films.
It is said that Shankar had fallen out with Rahman during the making and re-recording of Boys. Rahman did not turn up for the audio launch of the film even though he was in town. It was lyric writer Vairamuthu who recommended Harris to Shankar. Vairamuthu had fallen out with Rahman earlier over trivial issues and was waiting for his chance to hit back.
However it remains to be seen if the ace director can recreate the old magic with Harris.

The Shankar- Vikram film will be a futuristic thriller titled Aniyan, which will start rolling some time in April 2004
This futuristic film happens in Chennai 3033! A few years back Shankar had planned to make this movie with Kamalhassan and had titled it Robo.
The heroine is yet to be finalised though the grapevine is abuzz with rumours that Aishwarya Rai will be roped in. At a time when she is dropped by Ketan Mehta from The Rising, it is only a question of juggling dates. Aishwarya shares a special rapport with Shankar as she has worked with him earlier in Jeans.
This film will have state-of-the-art special effects and Sabu Cyril will create Chennai of thousand years from now. Harris Jayaraj will provide the music for Aniyan.

HAI TAMIZH..IT IS TRUE THAT SHANKAR AND HARIS ARE GOING TO SIT TOGETHER FOR A FILM. EVEN I HEARD THAT IT IS ACTUALLY MANISHARMA WHO HAS DOWNLOADED THE NOTATIONS FROM REHMAN WHILE HE WAS IN LONDON FOR SIGNING AN AGREEMENT TO WORK FOR A DAILY DRAMA. RE-RECORDING WAS ALSO DONE BY MANI SHARMA ONLY FOR THIS FILM.EVEN IN HIS PREVIOUS FILM REHMAN DISAPPOINTED US MUCH. I DONT KNOW THE NAME.IT IS A BALACHANDER MOVIE MADHAVAN AND SIMRAN ACTED IN THAT MOVIE. OK LETS HOPE FOR THE BEST FROM SHANKER AND HARIS. SHANKER IS A VERY HARD WORKER EVEN WHEN HE WAS WORKING AS ASST.DIR. WITH SA CHANDRASEKAR [VIJAY'S DAD] BYE sarath

Oh so much rumours,it is true that A.R.R is not for 'Robot',but the reason his merely the non-availability of dates as Rahman is busy with his Bombay Dreams Broadway debut and also with the stage adaptation of 'The Lord of Rings'.There is no diff of opinion between A.R.R and shankar, but between Vairamuthu & Shankar, and the split between Vairamuthu & A.R.R has been solved, they are coming together for Mani's 'Ayudha Ezhuthu'.

However... and eventhough shankar has split with a.r.rehman and try to bring harris jeyeraj in to his new filw ...still a.r.rehman music is the best ..
A.r.rehman knows how to composed a music according to the taste of the new generation and old generations and is his music is realy realistic..
Sure the day will come for a.r.rehman will be a best music director not even for the tamil movies but even though for overall the movies..
All the religion from "east to west" and south to north" are turn and listen to a.r.rehman music..
He is a talented and realistic music director...

I do not think shankar's films run only because of rehman's music. "Indian" ran well & it did not have great music. "Boys" flopped in spite of popular music. So, it is good teamwork that is responsible for shankar's success & not just rehman.

It was a wonderful combination ARR, VM and Shankar as a team. They lifted the Tamil cinema to the next level. The classics *usilampett peN kutti*, *kuRukku siRuthavaLE* brought international acclaim to the Tamil songs. Too bad they could not continue as a team anymore.
Shankar took a big hit when Boys floped at the box office. it was his second flop since Mudhalvan Hindi version flunked at the box office too. In his recent interview in Vikatan you could see how much a loss has influenced him. If two more movies flunk Shankar cant survive in Tamil Cinema since he is a big budget director. It is a good choice that he went for Vikram who recently has a decent star value ane he is far better tahn Arjun. But I am not sure how well H J can replace Shankar. You never know till the movie comes out.
One thing is sure, if two more movies of Shankar flunks he should make his resume ready for a DIFFERENT Profession. That is what Tamils Cinema is all about. I wish he wins this time.
