This movies did not do good in box-office as well was broadcated in Sun Tv within 3 months of it's release. Dinakaran or the Tamil Nadu state did not appreciate this movie either.
Central government award, to this movie is a big boost to it's producers and its team. The Story, Screenplay, Dialogue, Direction, Cinemotography, Lyrics and Music lived up to a good standard.
I wish to congratulate the entire crew through this forum. Poeple who appreciate the movie please do leave your comments.

**This movies did not do good in box-office **
Well, that is normal for an award-winning movie in India.
The movie was really good. There are people live exactly like this in some coastal area of India. If remember correctly AV reviewers appreciated the movie highly and did not give any marks saying that we should encouarage movies like iyarkai. I am so happy that a Tamil movie has earned a national award this time.

Yes 'Iyarkai' was a pretty good and decent movie and itis encouraging to know that it has won the national award. All aspects of the film were commendable. Sham had done a pretty good job. His acting was simple and natural. The scene where he declares his love for Kutti Radhika was something different and unforgettable. Congrats to the entire team!

Iyarkai is one unusual movie..
But what is this best regional movie? It is not given to a single movie nation wide,I suppose..One movie is awarded in every regional language..so 'iyarkai' for Tamil.
Anyone correct me,if I am wrong.

"Iyarkai is one unusual movie..
But what is this best regional movie?"
Every year best regional movie is selected from each state. So, definitely one Tamil film has to be selected from the regional category. On that basis, this time Iyarkai won the award from the Tamil Nadu region. But the most "prestigious" one is the best feature film award (which is one for all states/languages). This year that honour went to Marathi film "Swas". Normally, best film, best actor award etc goes for art movies. A National award for Indian films in India is akin to Academy awards in USA! Getting a national award at any capacity is a rare honour indeed!

Normally, one could see more art movies in Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi & Assamese movies. Hindi, Tamil, Telugu are more aligned towards commerical format hence there is s aseldom a art film from Tamil/Telugu. Hindi produces art films once ina while. That's why u could see best feature films are won mostly by malayalam/bengali or Marathi films. Also that's the reason u could see the likes of Mohanlal, Mamooty (both of them won a record 3 times) and Nasserudin Shah bagging National awards many times! I'm glad that finally, at last a Tamil actor has won this time!
