Dear Everyone including Editors of various Online Magazines:

My apologies for writing this letter in English. I do not have a Tamil font software to write in Tamil. I would like to bring this matter to your attention and to the attention of all Tamil speaking persons on this earth. Because this should not happen to any other writer or artist in the future.

I happened to read "Kalki" online edition and read the article "Kaaril idamillaiya Kamal?" I watched the movie which was screened here a week ago, and as a son of the writer Ra. Su. Nallaperumal, I cannot write in words the feelings I had. Mr. Kamala Haasan has made a movie that would bring him International acclaim and awards. There is not an iota of doubt that I am proud as a Tamilian that his movie is made by a Tamilian which has raised the standards of Tamil movies to heights unknown until this moment.

But, I would like to point it out to him, not only as the son of the writer of the inspirational Novel "Kalukkul Eeram" but also as a reader of fine literature, that an artist should always honor another artist or a writer in a fitting manner. In the kalki's Sumi Pakkam it has been pointed out that he should have honored the writer, Ra. Su. Nallaperumal by taking him to the preview. Fine and Classical writers and great artists do not long for honors or fame, but they need to be recognized and acknowledged. It is really sad that a fine artist like Mr. Kamala Haasan failed to do this. My father Ra. Su. Na has not seen the movie yet. If he sees it I am sure that he would be happy that a Tamilian has taken such a wonderful movie and at the same time no doubt, he would feel a pang of pain when he realizes that it is his theme that has been handled perhaps plagiarized, for which no one gave him the due credit. In fact I talked to him right after I saw the movie last week. His reaction was, "Leave it! why do you want to make this a big deal uh? Didn't they know what they were doing? Don't they have their consciousness or what? Why you get the blood pressure? Honor and recognition should not be called for, it should come to you...." were his actual words. Perhaps I may not have that much maturity but I need to face the reality in a practical way and which resulted in this mail.

Finally, for the editors: I don't expect you to publish this mail or whatsoever. But Mr. Editor, I would like you to keep yourself in my father's shoes and see things from that angle as an average reader of your magazine. Besides, sometimes as an editor, you may not like certain things that you publish. But for the sake of the future generations and as a magazine's responsibility to indicate the mistakes responsible people commit in the society. So, you may want to publish this in your own version of the same matter.

I would definitely appreciate your acknowledgement in this matter. Thank you very much for your time also.

Sincerely,

Balu Nallaperumal
