All four films released for Diwali have taken a decent opening. The hype and hoopla have helped the films in a big way, especially Pitamagan and thirumalai. Except for Pitamagan and thirumalai, none of the others are going to be superhits in the long run.
It is early to comment, but Pitamagan seems to be the winner among the four and thirumalai in second place. The audience in smaller stations are applauding when Vikram appears on screen making those grunts and groans! The chirpy conman Surya is bringing the house down with his funny antics and one-liners. According to trade analyst and film mediator Ramalingam: "Pitamagan is way ahead of others. People are coming to the theatres to see the performance of the lead actors."

Fans of Vijay say that his Tirumalai is much better than his earlier Puthiya Geethai and Bhagavathy. The songs tuned by Vidyasagar are good and the audience are seen dancing to its tunes. The film is Vijay’s first super hit which will break even and the distributors are not complaining as Kavitaalaya had sold the film at a reasonable rate.

The first half of Anjeneya is fast paced and racy and is being appreciated but the second half is disappointing as there is no story to tell. However the opening was good as usual for a Ajit film but by the fourth day the film has started sliding. The makers are planning to trim the film by half an hour and make it crisper. The publicity for the film is very low.

Ottran is a safe bet and is expected to do well in B and C centres. The action scenes are good and Arjun is being appreciated.
