Shakthi;
I am huge fan Sivaji thatha :))
His roles /characters that stunned me where
1) Karnan - wow, what a kambeeram in his walk, very aggressive chracter
2) Veera Pandiya Katta bhoman - simply superb, no other actor in India could have done such roles
3) Navarathiri - simply superb 9 characters, I loved the villain one more
4) Padikathavan - very affectionate brother
5) Viduthali - cool detective along with super*
7) Parsamalar - very sentimental
8) Thiruvizhaiyadhal - superb as Lord Sivaperuman
9) Thiruvarutchelvar - superb acting as an elderly person
and i am really suprised that his sons Prabhu & Ramkumar(?) are not his successors :(((

Do you think he overacted?

I have no words to describe how deep I am a fan of Nadigar thilagam. From my childwood,I am a great fan of him.Still he is making me wondering when I watch his old movies..
Recently I have see the movie"Kai koduththa Theivam"..What a stylish, casual acting by this born genius?God!!why don't you send him back to us..I always imagine how nice will it be,,if sivaji is a young actor now with all technical advancements ,he will make wonders..
If any body wants to see the versatality of this Greatest acting king, see one bharathiyar song"sindhu nathiyim misai nilavinile" from 'Kai koduththa theivam'..oh!God!How did you create such a exceptional actor, who can fit for every role...in that song ,even for a single line "Singa maraattiyar tham kavithai kondu serathu thanthangal parisaLippom'..one marattiyan give a kavithai oolai to keralite(chera)..and keralite give a 'Yaanai thantham' to maraatiyar...Our nadigar thilagam did both characters at a time..see that..it is simply beyond everything..
Long live Nadigar thilagam 's name!

I am also a great fan of Shivaji, but I should say that also has several weaknesses like any other actor inspite of being one of the greatest actors in TFM.
Sorry to say, he dosent suit certain characters and roles. For example, in the above posting, he has been praised for doing the Marati and Keralite roles.
Frankly, he didnt suit the Keralite rola one bit!! Dont you agree? Besides, hi didnt suit handsome young sons role as he always had a loose body with a tummy. There are only a very few films where he was slim.
Just though I would mention.

sweetad,
I am sure you are a one who don't know about sivaji and writing something as you know about him..If you think that keralite character didn't suit him,I think your understanding of keralite culture is 0...
//hi didnt suit handsome young sons role as he always had a loose body with a tummy//
Oh!I am sure I have seen sivaji movies only in TV ,that too some movies after 1975..Go and see 'Deiva magan'..if you are not blind...in the same movie..you can see slim, stylish, modern son, majestic and Royal father, ugly looking another son..not in different movies..it is one movie...No other actor can do 1/100 of that.

Here people are talking about his hit (Commercial)films. The films which were hit before and early 60s and flops, but the films need be discussed a lot. I have seen that People mention the following films: Veer.P.K.Bomman, Karnan, Thiruvilayadal, VasanthaMaaligai, Pudhiya Paravai, Gowravam, Raja raja Chozhan, Deiva magan, Vietnam veedu, Pa- serial films Mudhal mariyaadhai, Thevar magan etc. Why not films like Amara Deepam(in which both Savithri and Padmini acted, Screenplay by C.V.Sridhar), Vanangamudi(Great dialogues, Cut-out of this film also discussed), later Avanthaan manithan, Deepam, Thunai etc are not discussed. I have not seen lot of his earlier films. It is good to see someone saying about Kaikodutha Deivam and its song. There was a 100days film called "Pennin Perumai" in which Gemini was the Hero, Savithri as heroine and Sivaji as villain. Now-a-days people are not ready to see that film, because Sivaji's role is much smaller. I could not watch till its end at the same time I can't remember whether Sivaji's name is coming before Gemini's name.

Sweetlad;
>>Besides, hi didnt suit handsome young sons role as he always had a loose body with a tummy. There are only a very few films where he was slim.
<<
hahah joke of the year, have u seen Sivaji in parashakthi, have u seen sivaji's very first films, if you have then u would not be talking like this.
besides, since when it is criteria to be handsome, this is is the sterotype of Indian cinema, look at hollywood, there they look for talents, then looks, but sadly in Indian cinema they look for looks first, then talents!

"Do you think he overacted?"<<
yeah i do think...esp in later days of his cine life. he was a theatre actor, that showed in some of his movies. i mean in certain roles could have done lil subtly
ex.
vietnam veedu sundaram...
great story, great acting, etc..but
in that song
"palakattu pakatule oru appavi raja"
his facial exp to shwo that innocence and
embarassment (jollu or asadu vazhiyardu)
was tooo sick to watch.
one more ex:
was his expression in last song in movie
'mrudanga chakravarthi'
another ex:
i dont know the movie he casted with manjula
i think its
anbe..aruyire
yeeks.......too bad to watch.
i would say he did not shine well esp to show
flirtish expressions.

hee hee. he 'did' overact, eh? boy, i haven't come across one movie of his where he hasn't overacted in at least one scene. yeah in films like vietnam veedu, some scenes of his still make me squirm with embarassment.
may his soul R.I.P, but why does he have to flex his face so much? maybe u can blame it on his theatre background but still there's a limit to making faces like that, guys!
no offence meant but if he was born outside our state, say bengal or kerala, he wouldn't have been even considered a good actor, leave alone nadigar thilagam and all that bull.

As to his twitchings in mirudanga chakravarthi, Sivaji himself told that he observerd the midudanga vidvans for quite some time, though I have to agree that it was bit more. The actual problem with our perception of the facial twitches is that in these days there are very few close shots and when u suddenly see extreme close shots of sivaji, which were the order of that day, we are bound to feel it enhanced. Second facial features are more prominent in black and white and more subdued in color. Well if you want him to see as dignity personified well see kulama gunama, avan thaan manidthan
