I think when it comes to the aspect of Background scores in movies (BGM), Maestro. Ilayaraja is the best. Mr. Rahman too has a great potential for doin’ BGM’s. But he’s only proved it in a very few films like Roja, Bombay, Iruvar, Dil se etc..in only Manirathnam’s films. I think a BGM score should always be remembered by it’s tune for a long time….and the BGM’s of movies like Mouna ragam, Nayagan, Idhayam, Sethu etc haunts me, till date. I admit Mr.Rahman is a highly talented music director, but no on can ever surpass the achievemnt of Mr. Ilayaraja.

  compared to ilayaraja or deva, arr is the best.raja's and deva's music are jus too purely indian.arr is a fusion of all music.if raja n deva are beta y arent they at hollywood?compared to them, arr has acheieved alot in onli a few years.even his first movie is a hit.n lastly, my non-tamil fren love arr .n i also feel proud when they say "i didnt expect this from an indian composer."hows that.
