well actually i posted one n it went twice dont know y:D,anyway someones sayin that younger generation doesnt understand music well n anythin.i think this is an excuse that old people try to use these days..now listen Lata mangeshkar is undoutedly a melody queen n she said the best song that she sang from 1990 onwards is jiya jalay from the movie dil se which is composed by ARR.now this is not a comment by someone from the new generation...if u compare the worse music by IR n ARR ar rehman doesnt ever give a very bad music n still somehow holds to the standards.people respect ilayaraja alot bcos hes definitely a genius but when they compare IR n ARR they dont b very bold to accept that ARR has that ability to compete IR just bcos ilayaraja is 60 n ARR 37 n somepeople dont want to compete their favourite with a 37 years old guy but u guys cant make xcuses that young guys dont understand tha music or this topic is not even worth discussion for long now.

The topic is about A.R.Rehman or Illayaraj why unnccesarily drag IR here. btw, my opinion on this thread is what I mentioned in the previous thread.
Even after 10 more years, HJ will never get closer to ARR! How ARR toppled Ilayaraja within a jiffy in the early 90's? Because ARR brought a new trend in Tamil music beating the conventional IR style. ARR became a musical icon because he was a trend setter not only for Tamil movies but even for Bollywood movies while HJ is a mere trend follower (HJ plainly adopts ARR style!). Though HJ has produced some good music to his credit, HJ is one among the list of "ARR wannabes".

Hi Shoail,
I do agree with most of your observations. On coming to the topic of the music taste of the younger generation, probably I haven't expressed in a right way and I had no intention to hurt people from younger generation. Let me put like this : Does it mean that a musical composition is of less quality if the younger generation rejects it ?. Is the quality of music judged only when the younger generation likes it ? Certainly not

I fully agree that ARR is the best Cine Music MD as of now. The only thing I am requesting is that we should not compare ARR with IR until we have fully understood of what MUSIC is ? Also I won't agree that the age factor comes when making the analysis on IR and ARR. It may be TRUE that IR's music is not young people, but can we take this to decide that ARR is better than IR ? I should say that IR musical compositions are complex to understand for most of the people, but a person knows well about MUSIC, then definetly he/she will appreciate the beauty and richness in IR's compositions. That's why I am saying not to compare IR with others. We can do that only when we know MUSIC very well. Till then, please don't compare others with IR.

hello Krishnan
I accept that we should not compare IR (the genius) with ARR (a good cine music MD). I know little about MUSIC, but I can say some on IR's compsoitions. His compositions contain emotions. mood and flow with a good rythm. Whereas, in most of other CINE MDs, more importance is given to sounds which creates an illusion of a good quality music. This illusion is for people who have no idea of what MUSIC is and those who want a quick enjoyment. Please don't take my previous statement as an offence on anyone. It is a fact and no one is to be blamed. AT the same time, we cannot under estimate ARR. Though the quality of his MUSIC is not upto the ones of the Legends like IR, Zubin Mehta and etc., he is quitely giving some good melodies. He has achieved great heights in making Indian Music popular and I strongly beleive that he will achieve the same in making his MUSIC of greater quality and reach the mass.

i never ever said for even once that ARR is better than IR,,,but now ARR has been called the asian mozart by mani big music directors of foriegn too.but i think ARR's melody has straight effect on the heart u dont have to put urself into his music to feel wats good.as far as harris jayaraj is concerned hes superb.but in his interview which i found on his website he said unforgettable days of his life r the ones when he worked with ARR.but still all of them r great but wat we need to understand is that everyone has a field its our mistake we merge them together.

"Although I am a native American who grew up in Texas on Lightin' Hopkins and Ray Charles, with a diverse taste in music from Mozart to Bill Evans to Emmy Lou Harris, I now listen primarily to A.R. Rahman - and frankly have just about lost interst in any other music."this is the review on amazon.com by a gora of ARR's between heaven and hearth.so ARR is surely not just a GOOD cine music director hes a genius of heart too.harris is junior!
