pardon me! Bring them who said we are ugly..if i'm a King i would go and capture them and bring them to TN and they'll fall down on every Thamizh legs and say sry! Who care about someone's saying we are ugly and black..i'm not :) i'm Thamizh too:D so what's the matter u are not....and it's not the look ....u can assure we have a stong culture and a language and ppl with strong hearts! So tell them to shut up before We make them pay for what they are saying! I know it's not possible now days but don't worry i'll note that in my 'Natkuripu' [diary] it's in my mind and dont' worry North Indians love Thamizh:D lol...anyway just don't mind ...it ...we can't get ppl to become beauty in our culture because the situation is that it's the hindi government who is helping them and here in TN the culture is collapsed just study and show the world who we are we'll get country soon then they'll see who is wise and strong and genius:D

Shakthi:
Your consternation tempered by decent language is justified. Tradition was followed, rightly or wrongly, in treating widows the way they were treated. Actually it was mostly elderly women who resorted to disfiguring newly widowed women. If they resisted the practice no vedic guru would have dared to inflict that punishment on the widows. Having said that, I strongly oppose the disfigurement practice. It was OK(??) in the old days. We can't resurrect and rectify the past of its misdeeds. Times are changing and we have to change with the times. If men can remarry after their wives' death, so can women, especially if they are young.
Visu:
With respect to inner skirts and innerwear for upper body for women, it was not always used in the olden days. Nowadays the practice of widow disfigurement is discontinued. Even Sankaracharya is advocating vidhavA vivAham. Let us not get worked up over past practices (as people in the DK start abusing brahmins for supposedly evil practices of brahmins of the past or the african americans continuing to blame the whites for the slavery practice of the past). What is important is: are we reforming ourselves? I think the answer is yes. Old habits die hard. But die they do--slowly and surely if they cannot stand the test of time.

vazhipokkan,
nothing is constant except change. most of us think that criticizing old systems is against hinduism/god. females are given secondary treatment in all relegions.

dude Sivaniyam don't give secondary treatment and u know we had women as nayanmar too by the way when it comes to Hindu religion it points out the whole India overally which gives lot of troubles to some religions who don't have a common with the religions so far get called as Hindu i guess talking about these would do nothing anyway and i'm tired of ppl pointing out false and stuffs i guess i'm wasting my time here and don't tell me i just realized by the way try to save up the current culture and well see u latez ppl. I'll follow my own way and i hope u follow ur's way too and by the way i'm not used to being as TN Thamizh who are even shy to talk out and very scared inside and outside. Guess i have no comments except that u are wasting ur time in an argument which would do nothing! Be together ppl..
