What abt the sex history of tamils?????
Has anyone done any research on this?????
I remember reading sangam poetry wherein the tamils had a very free love life.
I also feel that the kannaki legend is a non-tamil budhist contribution which is responsible for the 'pennadimai' in t.n.
The todas have still got polyandry!
Some accounts i remember seeing wherein the traveller mentioned that Tamil country is ruled by females(fahien??)...then was our society matriarchial like malayalis(nairs)????

Kadai thirappu kandam of kalingathuparani mentions free interaction of soldiers with gals(no idea whether they are prostitutes.. was there prostitutes in ancient t.n? some say only rajaraja chola brought the practice!!)

  Polygamy Exist even today. The Tamil Films today glorify Polygamy and lot of Movies show the Hero marrying and living with two women.The famous one is Veera.
  
  In real life ,there is this leader of Opposition and Fomer CM and a National Level leader who is Polygamus with 3 wives.
  
  Polygamy is outlawed in Indian Penal Code but this law is not obeyeed

  I know the former cm(my friend told that one day when he was enjoying the evening air sittin in the lawn ..one youth went past..he called him and asked him as to who he is..that poor chap replied by just mentioning his mother's name..then our thanai thalaivar remembered and said that hereinafter he should tell this before hand!!!!).

  Absolutely Right MMC. Kannagi Legend is the Tamilian version of Women Enslavement. Periyar ,the last great leader who spoke for Women rights never approved of Kannagi Actions and in fact went to the extent of calling Tamil a "Kattumirandi Mozhi" for promoting Women Enslavement virtues.

  Very Long time ago, abouy 50000 yrs ago, it's possible we(Tamils' ancestors) would have been living like a tribals/hunters, sex (an animal instict, a survival guide back then) was probably casual (more like what we see the animals action in Discovery channel). But today the human being is complex, we need a stable family to raise a child properly! For stable family chasteness is important. To be human is to control and evolvoe beyond our animal instincts (some exceptions may be there). Our Ethics and values evolved too! So in the past males were abusive because they happen to be physically dominant (in general)! But today our species has lerned more, and it has to correct some of its' past problems!
  
  So the Tamil adopted this chastity momvement for better life. (chastity should apply to both men/women equally, unfortunately men have been escaping it)
  
  The person who wrote chilappathikaram (kannagi's story) is a Tamil, he wrote a literature, not a religious philosophy. Why do you think everyone is going to write about their religon all the time.
  
  Show me whre in Buddism that states to up hold chastity as Kannagi did!
  
  Every one's not perfect, EVR is not 100% correct! After all isn't it his caste biase reservation system that reinforced the caste sytstem. Rather than abolishing caste/it's title EVR made this mistake!
  
  If E.V.R tells Tamil is "karrdu mirandi" language just because Tamils have some mistakes (as other human species do), he 's fool (After all is he a linguistic expert)

  Both men and women do not marry at and early age as my grandparents have. People(all cultures) now focus on on finding out more about themselves and growing up on different levels before engaging in marriage. This is also an evolved state from the original hunter. Women in general have evolved into braodening their minds and accepting other challenges in life before marriage. People meet diff people in their development and growth, The high divorce rate these days ensures that couples get to know each other well before engaging in family life. More women and men have move in together before marriage.
  MY point is that more emphasis is placed on finding a life long compatible partner and sex is just a need that one satifies along the way, people should work on getting rid of the guilt. Not being a virgin before marriage does not change the true character of a women or a man.

  Kannagi story shows the power of a woman and her vengence but the present day Tamils use her to support the enslavement of women.
  
  Tamils were ruled by TELUGUS and later by Marathas. During their rule MUSLIM values adopted aginst women and suppressions started.
