As a regular reader of this forum I have noticed that some Tamils are fostering deep seeded animosity towards Malayalees.
My questions are:
How did this animosity come about historically or culturally?
And since linguistically (dravidian) both cultures are very similar shouldn't the two cultures be very close?
Please share your experiences regarding negative or positive experiences you have had with Malalyalees, if any.

Perhaps we don't but we don't want to be Independant but dependant? Perhaps that's how you are being raised? Or that's how you are being portrayed or that's how you should be as the governor of your land want you to be? Perhaps we lack rebellion minds...or maybe that's we have been slaved to foreigners legs for approxmately 700 years..perhaps that's why...but Armedia and it's people came over the slaverism of 700 years..will Thamizhans set another example?   Hmm I would rather rephrase the word animosity with refrain and maybe add contempt as the outlook of the mordern tamizh person towards a malyali.
  
  The reasons are fairly simple and straightforward. People in kerala, still live in their own harked old world, by their own anchronistic archaic ways and means. Innovation or change is alien to them.
  
  Their mainstream media too has often tried to project the tamizh person in low esteem. The acheivements of tamizh people in contemperory world is far more than a malyali can imagine. Their standard refrain is against ' v dont like rajni kant, hmm what is jayalalitha,... actors/actresses in politics... claiming themselves to be clean...their concocted version and hallucination of intelligence, and prosperity'...so on and so forth.

  Tamil Ramadass elevated Criminal Veerappan as a TAMIL hero. Indian PM Manmohan singh too accepted the fact and given a minister job to Anbumani who is a son of Ramadass.
  
  I dont think any Malayali will do this kind of crime supporting business.

  Mr Chacal, what is literacy rate in TN as opposed to Kerala? I'm also curious as to why Malayalis are most adventurous in leaving their homeland to the elderly, women and kids while they make the buck in other countries. Why can't they be as industrious in Kerala as they are outside it?

  1. Except for a few nut cases - there is no questn of animosity between mallus & Tamils
  
  2. I have seen Mallus & Tamils getting along quite well
  
  3. Well, I m a Mallu and to see some of the downright stupid comments abt Kerala and Mallus - pains me
  
  4. No one will deny the fact that Tamilnad & Tamil culture is the mother culture to all of South India - our food, cloting, customs, language all have roots in Tamil (Mallus, knowledgable ones admit that)
  
  5. However, its so sad that Tamilnad is in itself forgetting its roots - you see everywhere a kind of apathy towards ones culture / roots.
  
  6. That is where Kerala stands tall in the entire nation. Go to Kerala and you will see the difference - go to our temples, our festivals - you will see that

  Malayalees go abroad and support their temples and their culture but Tamils go somewhere and change their religion. That is the difference.
