FH Readers/Participants,

Today Jan 14th is Uttarayana PunyakAlam, this is the day when the sun begins it's northern course in the celestial hemisphere.

This is a very important day all over India, right from Kashmir to Kanyakumar, from Gujrat to Manipur.

Let us celebrate Pongal as we do in Tamil as our Indian brothers and sisters do elsewhere.

Happy Pongal/Sankaraanti to all of you and your family members. Best wishes for your well being.

  The monsoons have unleashed in earnest…
  Heralding golden pollen for the harvest!

  It's January- after the Winter Solistice….
  Thanksgiving time-a sense of purpose!
  For the sun has charted his favourable round,
  Ushering in the spirit of Pongal profound!
  
  "Bhogi Pongal" day popular with the crowds
  Honours Indira- ruler of rain and clouds!
  For showering harvest & riches to the land
  Earmarking a New year fresh and grand!
  
  Colorful kolams adorning homes reign,
  Celebrating harvest of rice and cane!
  Bonfires,"Bhogi kottus" loud and true
  Ring out the old- ring in the new!
  
  The second day to Suryan- god of the sky
  We render our prayers on this month of "Thai"
  With Pongapaanai designs quite artistic
  And green leaves of prosperity symbolic;
  Spicy ginger and turmeric auspicious-
  Cooking sarkkarai pongal-O' delicious!!
  
  We pray for sweetness amidst problems rife
  Like the elephant Sundareshwar brought to life;
  Mattu Pongal- we remember our animal friends
  For "Milk and Plough" that our life depends!
  "Manji Virattu" revelry quite colorfully "hip"
  Ganesh and Parvathi this day we worship!
  
  This also marks the event of "Pongal Kanu"
  When all young maidens their vows renew
  With colored dumplings of cooked rice…
  Praying sibling unity never shall lyse!
  
  Thanking our creator we humbly revere,
  During this festival simple and sincere;
  Yes, common to crop, man and beast…
  Joy bubbling over, problems released,

  This one I must ask you..It is very natural ,When a non-Indian call one indian as non-indian and call himself as indian,then a Real Indian get angry..Instead one guy 'Pallai ilichifying' and another guy 'vakkalathu' for that non-Indian..I doubt these two are not Indians .
