Adi Dravidas and their potential origins
Each Indian state has its so called Adi Kudis in TN it si Adi Dravidsa in Kranatka and Andhra it is Adi Karnatkas and Adi Andhras. It not restricted to India alone but such groups exist in Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and even Maldive and laccadives.
These are not to be confused with the Adivasis or Tribal people who hare outside the pale of the civilized (better or uncivilized) world but part and parcel of the society always at the bottom.
A thread was strated to discuss about it and was deleted because of request by the originator. But information on these groups is sketchy and generalized. Opened a thread to discuss this issue.

கடைசியல சொதப்பிட்டீங்க ஸ்ரீனீவாசன். All indians are either of Aryan or Dravidian orgin என்று சொல்லுவதர்க்கு பதிலாக Both the Aryans and Dravidians were of Indian origin'னு சொல்லிடீங்க.

all of your links point to modernization, their brutal female infanticide as the reason for decline!
I think my point was to show a relationship between a settled group like Todavas and unsettled hunter gatherers like Kotahs.
The Kotahs consider it an honour to make music on the death of a Toda chief and accept no payment for their service

Now I have read books on Todas which indicated that certain tribes played certain roles in the life of a Toda. Some like the Kotahs made musical instruments and played instruments for them. Other tribes played the role of the sorceress and yet others provided other services.
The central relationship is that of the settled Todas and the unsettled others. Todas also had an agricultural element in them who had been superceded by the Buffalo herders about a 1,000 years ago..
(This was the central mistake in their evolutionary process. Agriculturists produce excess food which leads to demographic explosions but herders are usually hand to mouth. Today Todas are fewer than 2,000 and Badagas who modeled them after the Todas are around 150,000 in the Nigiris district. Badagas were less than 2,000 individuals about 100 year ago and Todas too were about 2,00 individual about 100 years ago. This is called a population bottleneck)
There was this hierarchy even amongst the Todas. Then there was this hierarchy in their relationship to other tribals. This is in a society which till today has not undergone Sanskritization like the rest of us and points the organization of society in ancient Tamilaham which is indicated in Cankam work.
