Do we need it? Can it be Safe? Do they have any Safety guidelines that is strictly enforced there?
Most of all, is it cheaper to produce Nuclear power than thermal?

Good topic, though it's too late to discuss now (since the work has commenced already). And in any case, best started under Miscellaneous section than Tamil History, in my opinion.

Dear Protam,
There is a lot of hype related to Nuclear Energy and utilisation.. Nuclear Energy was never safe and never will be.. On top of that it is never ever cheap.. It is so deadly that garnering it can only be justified if it is used in destruction.. there are so many issues related nuclear plants like nuclear meltdowns, nuclear fallouts, nuclear waste etc.. will the employees(most importantly labour) protected from the radiation??.. Will the nuclear waste be handled properly?? These questions will never get a satisfying answer.. The reason is simple - it will be awfully expensive to utilise nuclear energy if all the interests of the people working in the plant have been taken care of..
There are lot of industries in India that are harmful for the people.. poisonus materials like Asbestos and PVC(Poly-Vinyl Chloride) are so ubiquitous.. We dont see any kind of effort to minimise the use of these materials.. We dont want to acknowledge, because we deem its a waste of our time and money to do such thing..
In India we have a problem with awareness.. We have so much faith in GOD that we always think that other people's problems are not OURS and GOD for some mysterious reasons make sure that they wont affect us.. But that is not true.. We are dying.. As people.. As a nation.. Due to our apathy to other people's problems..
BTW you are wrong srini.. It is never too late to fight(atleast talk) about a right cause..

fine Critics,
The people of Thuthukudi and Thirunelveli dts should raise their voice against this, atleast make the govt feel we are concerned about the safety running of the plant,
Let govt invest more on other non renewable source of energy production like ocean hydel and solar etc, being a tropical country we could do wonders on solar power.

Almost all the western countries are using it?
USA has so many nuclear plants? I think people in the west will be more careful with life. If our govt can implement safety features that are followed in west, it shouldnt be a problem

Critic you are 100% correct. But 99.95 of our people don't know the difference between a thermal power station and a nuclear power station.
what to do?

fictional scenario: year 20xx , nucelar disaster killed thousands, and millions of tamils affected by the tragedy, the gov of hindia which erected the nuclear plant without proper safety measures in their traditionaly neglected state of tamil nadu have successfully covered the story. tamil nadu politicians now only start to analyze, cry , condemn etc but the harm has done.
