"Kudumichi" Stone inscription found in Kovai, Tamil Nadu For the first time
A stone inscription with a name of a woman called “Kudumichi” has been found in Tamil Nadu for the first time.
After coming to know that there were some stone inscriptions at Selakarikal in Kovai district, Tamil Heritage Foundation researchers with the help of Kovai Archeological department did a research at the site
The stone inscriptions were found to be 13th century king Vikrama Cholans temple inscription.
Research head of the Tamil Heritage Foundation, Doctor Gurusamy Siddhar says
“This stone inscription found at Selerikal is from the 7th year of the reign of King Vikrama Cholan, It mentions the name of a great woman called Kudimichi of the old Tamil tradition.
Her name is “Ingkai Kudumichi cholan umai aana anathiru pallavaarasi”, this is the first time ever to find a woman’s name called “kudmichi” in a stone inscription found in Tamil Nadu
Until now stone inscriptions mentioning the name of men called “kudumban” were only found .The real name of this queen “Kudimichi” is “Cholan umai”
Since she was occupied government posts she was called “anathiru pallavaarasi”, She is from place called Keeranur which is close to Palani. Since she has a cholan name in front of her original name “Umai”, there are high chances that she is a Princess of the cholas
From the stone inscriptions we find that the Mallar community had led a prosperous life as Kings,Queens,Government officials in the time between Sangam age to Cholars and Pandyars age.
He also added that the stone inscriptions had to be protected.
