The Simhala population which is reported to have occupied Lanka is reported to be of North Indian origin which settled in Lanka .The second wave of migration of Arya Chakravarthis is reported to be of Gujarati origins.
Asoka the Great sent the batch of Budhhist clergy to Junagadh and we have the famous Brahmi inscriptions in Gujarat.
The word Simhala is derived from Simha the lion.Only place in India, where lion ever lived and still live is Saurashtra in Gujarat.
Hence I have a hunch that we have Gujaratis , actually Saurashtrians are the Simhalas .
We have a lot of folk stories in Gujarati where there are statements like the Lanka Ni laadi Ane Ghogha No Var, meaning Bride from Lanka and groom from Ghogha in Gujarat. We have a clan of Vaniyas known as Lanka Na Vania. It would be very interesting to know more on this subject from forum hubbers.
