Has Periyar done really good, or much damage to the Tamils and their Culture by his teachings

Has "Periyar" by his teachings tried to relieve Tamil Nadu from the Brahmin dominance, or has he under the pretext of this idealism damaged the rich Tamil Traditions & Culture, and the Tamil -Saivaism & Vaishnavaism - that developed in Tamil Nadu through ages, nurtured by the great Tamil - kings, emperors, poets, patriots and sages of Tamil Nadu ????
