From time immemorial Jaffna people have been having very close cultural contacts with people from various parts of South India, specially Thamilnadu and Kerala. Some scholers believe that various aspects of culture of Jaffna tamil society indicate strong affinity towards Keralite culture. Similarly the historical and other evidences indicate high level of cultural exchanges between Jaffna and various Kingdoms of ancient Thamil country and present Thamilnadu.
I am trying to study such influences through the Traditonal Buildings existing in the Jaffna region. I have documented some of these buildings in my web pages at http://us.geocities.com/rmayooranathan. I request all those who are interested in this subject to visit this site and start a discussion based on the comparison of the Traditional buildings of South India and Jaffna to identify the conceptual basis of the cultures of these Regions.
